Blended Learning with a Station Rotation Model for K-2 Math
Subject, level of instruction, and intended audience
My subject is math and the level of instruction is targeted for a K-2 classroom. The intended audience is my administration and teachers. My assignment is written as a Professional Development for teachers to how to implement Blended Learning with station rotations using the math curriculum.
Key documents that influenced my design process
Key institutional documents that influence my design process will be my outline. It is designed for a one week professional development session.
Balancing assessments for/as learning
Throughout my course I have given teachers reflection opportunities at the end of each day. Teachers can also see how their peers have responded by viewing a data chart of responses submitted. I can use this to gauge how the teachers are learning, what they are learning and if they need more instructional support. The teachers are given the opportunity to collaborate with their peers so that they can learn from each other as well.
Why I chose a particular design approach
My design approach is an asynchronous online approach. Teachers will be given the Professional Learning course over 5 days. It is self-paced with time for teachers to collaborate at the end of each daily module. At the end of each module, teachers will be able to ask questions and reach out to instructional coaches and administrators for any help they may need. The course is designed to be student-centered with the teacher as the student.
What controls the learning?
The teacher is in control of the learning. The information is presented in a way that teachers will have the time they need to work through the daily modules and collaborate with other teachers about the content. The teachers will be allowed to present a final lesson plan and grading rubric specific to their classroom needs and get feedback from their peers.
Why I chose to use (OBE) Outcome-based education
I am using outcome-based education (OBE) to design my professional learning course. My course is designed for teachers. Research has shown that teachers learn through professional development when it is active, engaging, and intentional. Allowing the teachers to use the information presented to them in the course to help them design their blended learning environment for their classroom is giving them the opportunity to apply what they have learned.
Moving Learners to deeper thinking
I am moving the teachers into deeper learning because they will be researching, reading, and collaborating together. Deeper learning takes place when we can talk about what we have learned. Having teachers collaborate and discuss blended learning will allow them to dive deeper into the topic.
