5305: Contribution to My Learning and the Learning Community

5305: Disruptive Innovation in Technology

In this course, I was given the opportunity to develop an Innovative Proposal Plan. In this plan, I presented Blended Learning in the Elementary Classroom with the Station Rotation model. Using the Station Rotation model, I proposed integrating choice boards in the subject of Social Studies. I compiled the research in a Literature Review and developed an Implementation Outline that breaks down the stages of implementation that would allow me to introduce my proposal on an elementary campus.

The projects that I developed gave me the opportunity to analyze how important I feel technology is to the future of our students and how teaching with technology will better prepare them for their future. During this course, one thing that did not work well for me was attending the live sessions. My campus is a late dismissal campus and by the time I got home in the evening, the sessions had begun so I was continually watching them a day behind. I feel this gave me a sense of disconnect from the course and the learning community. For future courses, I will strive to make a few personal schedule changes so that I can attend the live sessions. I believe that live interaction with my instructor and fellow students will provide a sense of community that I feel was lacking for me.

Although I could not attend the sessions live, I enjoyed participating in the discussion board discussions and reading the other students’ comments, feedback, and feed forward. This particularly helped when I worked on my projects. For example, the Literature Review proved quite difficult, and I did not request help. In hindsight, I should have. When it was time to complete the Implementation Outline, I submitted my link to the forum and received excellent feedback and suggestions. Some students I collaborated with were Nicole Lipp and Lakesha Smith. While I didn’t get involved in a true collaborative team, I did enjoy the opportunity to receive comments on my posts and share thoughts with others. I did not participate in every discussion and realize that the importance of communicating with peers is critical to my success in this program.

I completed all of my coursework and turned each project in on time, and I appreciated the feedback that was given from the instructor with each one. One project I needed to revise was my Literature Review. After reading the comments, I saw a need to put my best work on my website so I revised and resubmitted my project. After careful consideration of my contributions to my learning and the learning community, I feel I did meet all of my key contributions, however; I failed to meet all the supporting contributions because I did not use APA cited resources in my postings, and I feel I did not take a leadership role in the class. These are areas I hope to show growth in through the course of this Applied Digital Learning program.
