5304: Contributions to Learning and the Learning Community

As I participated in the course work for Creating Organizational Change, I learned a significant amount about being a leader of change within an organization. When I began the Applied Digital Learning program, I created my Innovation Plan completely unaware of what it meant to create change. As I read each of the books in this course, watched all the videos, and attended the class meetings weekly, I learned that my innovation plan has to start with knowing my why. Without beginning here, I have little chance of people buying into what I want to accomplish. I learned that people do not buy what you do, they buy why you do it.

As I watched each of the videos assigned, I participated in all the discussion questions and replied to my collaboration group from my 5317: Digital Resources and Environments who were also taking this course. I realized that I was not alone in my thinking when it comes to change being difficult to implement. After reading the book, Crucial Conversations, I do feel better prepared to handle the difficult conversations that may rise when working on my Innovative Plan. I will keep this book handy when it comes time to introduce my innovative plan at my school.

Throughout the course, I feel that I could have spent more time collaborating with others and giving more feedback. Even though I replied to each discussion in a timely manner, I feel there is always room for improvement. I revised my assignments and corrected typos I found after I submitted. I read the coursework and turned in all of my assignments on time. I was part of an outside collaboration group where people posted questions or offered their time to provide feedback. Joining collaboration groups has been where my weakness lies. Although I do join groups, I feel so busy with work and class, that at the end of the day, I am not making time to collaborate as much with others. I enjoyed taking this class and learned useful tools to help me in the future with implementing my innovation plan. Since I do feel that I have room to grow, I think my grade should be a 90.
