In this course, I was provided the opportunity to discuss with my peers about the different types of technology that we are all currently using. I found that we have a lot in common depending on the grade levels and content we teach. During the first discussion, we viewed a TED Talk video by Sugata Mitra. This was especially inspiring to see how children left with a computer without any prior knowledge could figure out how to use the technology. It was not completely surprising given the way my students are able to use iPads in my classroom. I used this discussion as a blog post for my ePortfolio.
Our next discussion was about our topics of interest when choosing digital resources and digital environments, and what online publications we read to learn more about technology. Being able to collaborate and learn about new resources really helped me when I started to write my outline for my publication submission. You can view my blog to read my discussion post.
For my publication submission, I decided to work alone because of my busy schedule. I also have publishing experience, although it is not in education. For my outline, I selected TCEA TechNotes Blog and Edutopia.org. I researched the submission guidelines for both publications and included them in my outline.
Once my outline was completed, I started to write my draft as well as create a digital media trailer to post to my ePortfolio. Collaborating in the online discussions helped me see what resources others were using for digital content. I chose Canva for my platform to create my media project and then chose to upload to YouTube. The final media project will hopefully catch the attention of readers and spark their interest in my article.
After completing my outline, rough draft, and final draft, I am now ready to submit my article for publication. I am hopeful that I will be published on TCEA TechNotes or on Euphoria.org. I will submit my proposals according to their submission guidelines and wait to hear back from them. If I am not accepted, I will continue to try with other articles in hopes that I will one day be published.
