5317: Contributions to Learning and the Learning Community

Throughout my coursework for Digital Resources and Environments, I began an outline for an article that I am planning to submit for publication. I created a digital media video to grab the attention of potential readers of my article. This was a learning experience for me. Digital content is very difficult to create because it is so visual. The content has to grab the viewer within a few seconds, or it will risk losing the viewer’s interest. I realized that this is one area where I am weak. I have always loved to write, but creating visually appealing content was definitely a challenge. As part of the feedforward provided when I submitted my assignment, there were suggestions to decrease the volume in the video so that the audience could hear what I was saying, especially toward the end of the video. I adjusted the audio and uploaded a revised version based on the feedforward I was given.

I actively participated in my group discussions and used some of my discussion posts as reflective blog posts on my ePortfolio. I posted in a timely manner so that others could respond to my comments. Some of my initial posts were referenced with comments that were merely responses to others’ posts.

I met all of my deadlines with assignments, and made sure to post my discussions by the deadlines as well. I posted replies to my collaboration group members’ posts, as well as others in the course. My collaboration group members were: Shannon Frazier, Melissa Fuqua, Christopher Hill, and Sarra Jackson. I initiated inviting everyone to a group chat so that we could text easily if we had questions or comments. While I did comment to posts by the members of my collaboration group, I do feel that I was not as involved as I could have been outside the discussion groups. A busy work schedule, the end of the school year, and getting sick with the flu are just a few of the things that kept me from being as involved with collaboration as I could have been.

I chose to complete my submission article independently due to my busy schedule. I selected two different resources to submit my article to. One is TCEA TechNotes Blog and the other Edutopia.org. I frequently read both of these publications and hope to one day have my article accepted for publication. After taking this course and writing my article, it has given me inspiration to write other articles about educational technology and digital learning. As Dr. Still explained, we may not feel as if we are “experts” but in the field of digital learning we really are qualified to write about this topic. I think realizing that has sparked an excitement within me to share the digital resources that I have been using with others.

When deciding on a grade for myself, I always reflect on the fact that I know I can do better. I know there is always room for growth. I feel that I have earned a 90 as my final grade for my contribution to my learning.
